Enrolling at UTEP
One of two universities in El Paso and the surrounding area,
UTEP
has roughly 19,000 students and 160 degree programs. It hosts six academic departments:- Business
- Education
- Engineering
- Health Sciences
- Liberal Arts
- Sciences
Each offers baccalaureate and graduate degrees, as well as interdisciplinary graduate studies.Other than the usual university level paperwork, admission is fairly straightforward. Freshmen are admitted with a high school degree or equivalent and a 920 SAT. There is also a provisional admission for Texas residents who have yet to meet the standard requirements. Transfer students with at least 12 hours and a 2.0 GPA should not have trouble getting admitted. Transferring credits, however, can be a bit tricky if you're coming from outside the UT system. There are some exceptions as provided for in the
transfer guides
. But students considering a transfer from out of state or private schools should check on credit transferability ahead of time. You can do this by contacting a Transfer Counselor at (915) 747-5777. Unless you have unlimited resources, you don't want to spend the time and money to take a course that won't count toward a your UTEP degree. Admissions 915-747-5890
